The Manx Loaghtan is a rare sheep breed, native to the Isle of Man/ UK. It is sometimes spelled as Loaghtan or Loghtan. The sheep has dark brown wool and usually four or occasionally six horns. The Manx Loaghtan is one of the Northern European short tail sheep breeds and descends from the primitive sheep once found throughout Scotland, the Hebrides, and Shetland Islands.
The Alpine Stonesheep is an old and traditional sheep breed which has been living in the Alps for hundreds of years. It is well adapted to rough weather conditions of high locations. This small and at the first sight, delicate sheep is an agile climber and it is well suited for grazing of rocky and exposed alpine regions.
Fat tail sheep arrived in South Africa between 200 and 400 AD. The Damara Herero, Namaqua and the Kam Karrin Hottentot tribes farmed and traded with what has become the Damara sheep of today. The name is derived from the Damara area of Namibia where the largest number of animals is found. The commercialisation and characterisation of the breed started at the Omatjienne Research Station near Otjiwarongo in Namibia in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

The 9th World Congress of Coloured Sheep - “FROM THE CLIP TO THE CLOTH” 20th- 22nd of

Registration closed!
The congress itself will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of May 2019 in Biella, Italy at the Santuario di Oropa (congress venue). The congress venue is 15 km away from Biella city center.
On Sunday, the 19th of May 2019 a welcome reception will take place. Dinner will be offered for 25€ per person.
On Monday, the 20th of May 2019 the congress itself will start. In the morning, we will be welcomed by local officials and then there will be presentations with a coffee break in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Before the evening dinner the congress attendees will be able to present their products and posters in the exhibition room.
On Tuesday morning, the 21st of May 2019 there will be more presentations and a coffee break. After lunch, we will be taken by coach to visit Biella The Wool Company and the village of Miagliano. In the evening, a three-course dinner at Oropa is served.
On Wednesday, the 22nd of May 2019, we will go by coach on a field trip visiting several wool processing facilities in Biella. There will be lunch provide at the field visit as well as a three- course dinner in the evening.
If you wish to register for the congress, please fill out the attached form and transfer the money in Euro (€) via PayPal or bank transaction. You’ll receive an invoice and a confirmation as soon as the money is received. The deadline for registration is 31/12/2018.

"Photosheep"
Technical details:
A, the size of the file must be non compressed jpg hd file not longer than 3500px, 300 dpi, numbered with the name of the author and title of the photograph. They are to be sent to amicidellalana@gmail.com. Please no more than 4 photographs per author.
B, they can be in colour or monochromatic
C, the photographs must be submitted before the 28th February 2019
D, the photographer remains the owner of the photograph, and should it be published in the exhibition his name will accompany it. By participating in the Photosheep competition, the author permits it’s publication free of charge for promotion of other events, including exhibitions by Amici della Lana, website and social media.
E, The photographs to be exhibited and the winners will be chosen by a small group of local photographic experts. The participants at the congress will also have the opportunity to vote for their preferred photograph.
F, when photographing people, please obtain a Model release, a written signed authorization from them for you to use their image without payment, in exhibitions, events, publications etc.
When submitting your photographs, please compile the following document and sign on the dotted line.

Description of the rooms:
Junior Suite & Junior Suit Superior: Located in the pavilion towers on either side of the main entrance these rooms boast a panoramic view of the town of Biella and its valleys. All the rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished access is via a communal lounge area which has been furnished with antiques. TV and telephone in all of the rooms.
Comfort Room:
These rooms offer quality and value for money. Single, double or triple rooms are available and all have antique furnishings.
Other possible options are:
Hostel: These are the most economical rooms, ideal for groups, youngsters and students but also for those who would like to have an experience similar to that in a monastery. Simply furnished, but comfortable, all rooms have a private washbasin while the shower and toilets are communal. There is also the use of a small kitchen.
The Santuario di Oropa needs your day of arrival and day of departure as well as your name, address and credit card number for the booking.
The hotel itself doesn’t offer breakfast.
Breakfast can be booked via the congress registration form (see attachment).
The breakfast will be offered at the restaurant where we will be having lunch and dinner.
The breakfast offered is a continental breakfast and it will cost 7,00€ per person per breakfast.
The congress venue hosts several other coffee and breakfast places where you can have breakfast for yourself.
